How many MCP servers charge agents per call?

Quick answer. 212 of the 12,662 capabilities tashan tracks mention x402 in their own npm description, and 254 advertise per-call payment in some form — USDC, micropayments, or pay-per-tool-call. That is what the authors say, counted from the text they published. It is not a verified integration, and this page does not claim it is.

Why does the distinction between 'says' and 'does' matter here?

Because money is involved. A keyword in a description costs an author nothing — this index already had to stop trusting npm keywords when a Yahoo Finance client turned out to declare mcp, agent and skill. tashan can tell you how many packages make the claim, and what their upkeep, advisories and provenance look like. It cannot tell you a payment endpoint honours what it charges for.

Is anyone worried about this already?

Yes, and it is in the corpus: at least one server exists purely to “verify x402 payment endpoints before an AI agent pays”, with scam scoring. A market that has grown its own fraud-checking layer is a market with fraud in it.

How do I check one before my agent pays it?

curl -s 'https://tashan.sh/v0.1/lookup?name=<package>'

Free, no account. You get the score, the advisories at the version you would install, whether it was built in CI with attestation, and what it declares it can reach. None of that is a guarantee about a payment endpoint — it is the public evidence about the package serving it.

FAQ

Does tashan take agent payments?

The endpoints are built and quote a price in every 402; settlement is not enabled yet, and until it is we quote no payment option we cannot verify.

Is this list current?

It is recounted from npm descriptions every night, and the page does not render at all below 25 — a table of six would be noise dressed as a trend.
